Counting Down to Science World

Our DonorsChoose Project: Bringing Scholars Into The Science World

As part of my goal to help increase my scholars’ exposure to science literacy, I wrote a grant on DonorsChoose this summer for a class set of Scholastic Science World magazines. As some of you may or may not know, I have moved to 7th Grade for the new school year and will be looping with my scholars. Last year, all the scholars worked hard to improve their reading levels through school-wide small-group morning book clubs. Their efforts led to many moving up 2-3 reading levels by the end of the year!

To keep the momentum moving forward, I wrote the grant to expose scholars to more non-fictional texts and science current events with the class subscription. We received a donation from a generous individual, and then today we received a match offer from KIA Motors. This means we only have $130 to go! This is so exciting! I am touched by the generosity of those who have reached out so far, and only hope that we will be able to have the grant fully funded before school starts next week. I can’t wait to see the smiles on the faces of my scholars when they see the monthly sets!
