Today, in my Google inbox, came great news: a work-for-hire contract and my assignment. Over the past two weeks, I had been exchanging emails with an editor from a publishing company who was looking for a science teacher to take on a research-writing project in updating one of their science books. While not a full-time or part-time teaching position, it is a wonderful opportunity to share my love for science as well as a fun challenge to further stretch my writing skills! I am very excited about it and look forward to the next few months, as it will undoubtedly help monetarily, keep me busy while applying for open positions, and push me harder to hone my content mastery and expertise.
I write about this to highlight the power of the PLN. It would not have taken place without the help of my friends. A big thank you goes out to Howard Glasser, (@hglasser), for he was the one who first tweeted about the project and forwarded my name to the editor. He opened a door of opportunity for me, and for that I am grateful. So for the other teachers out there searching for open positions, don’t forget about your PLN. Its very power lies in its ability to give and receive. Ask and you shall receive, right? 🙂
