Edutopia shared a tweet this morning featuring 100 Blogs That Will Make You A Better Teacher. Always on the lookout for new teacher blogs, I decided to scroll through the page and check out some of the recommended links. Edwize was one of the blogs that caught my attention, especially because it featured a New Teacher Diaries category. Having student-taught in an urban middle school in Las Vegas, naturally I gravitate towards reading material written by new teachers working in urban schools and this New Teacher Diaries category was right up my alley.
Edwize’s New Teacher Diaries shares “real stories” about what it is like to be a new teacher in a public New York City school. After scouring through the archives, I found several gems like Mr. Foteah’s heart-warming letter of apology to a student and Ms. Brave’s reflective 10 Things I Wish A Teacher Told Me. The NT Diaries was a welcome find as it reminds me why I want to be a teacher–the connections!– and it pushes me forward to keep searching for employment in a tough market.
