Last week, I officially began my third year of teaching! My colleagues and I have been hard at work since mid-August; we were practicing our language, going over school-wide and classroom-specific routines and procedures, writing lessons, and setting up our classrooms for the beginning of the year. This year I was assigned to a regular classroom setting on the third floor, so I had to get creative with the small space and revamp my routines for demos, labs and activities since I no longer had access to the spacious laboratory.
The first week of school came and went by surprisingly fast. It was an exciting time, and I loved meeting my new 7th graders. In this post, I’m sharing several photos from my science classroom. I wanted to focus on creating a more positive learning environment through systemized organization, print-rich decorations, sharing quotes on perseverance and success. The U-shape arrangement of the long desks is different for me this year, but I like that it allows scholars to face front for some direct lectures and encourages more partner-work for activities and discussions.
